How to choose an affiliate network in India: a checklist for advertisers

A network checklist with traffic sources, vertical and geo fit, tracking with your MMP, fraud policy and KPIs before launch, next to a magnifying glass

India has hundreds of affiliate and performance networks, and from the outside most of them look the same. The websites promise reach, quality and fast results. The difference only shows up a few weeks into a campaign, when you look at retention, rejection rates and invoices.

This guide is a practical checklist for advertisers choosing a network in India, whether you are launching an app, a fintech product, an edtech course or an e-commerce store. Use it before you sign anything, and use it again after the first month.

New to the model? Start with what a CPA network is and how it works, then come back to this checklist.

1. Start with where the traffic comes from

The most important question is also the one networks answer least clearly: who actually sends the users?

  • Direct publishers have a contract with the network and send traffic from their own websites, apps, social pages or media buying. The network knows them and can stop them quickly.
  • Sub-networks are other networks that resell the offer to their own publishers. Each extra layer makes it harder to know where users come from and slower to fix a problem.

Ask for a breakdown of traffic types for your offer: in-app, web, social, search, push, email, incentivised or not. A good network will tell you which sources it plans to use and will ask for your permission before adding new ones.

2. Check the fit for your vertical and geo

A network that runs gaming installs very well may have no strong publishers for loan leads, and the reverse. Ask:

  • Which similar offers are you running right now, in the same vertical and the same states or countries?
  • What actions do those advertisers pay for: install, registration, KYC, deposit, purchase?
  • Do your publishers cover the languages your users speak, such as Hindi, Tamil, Telugu or Bengali?

You will rarely get client names, but a network with real experience can describe the campaigns in detail.

3. Make sure tracking is built for your product

For apps, the standard is server-to-server tracking through your attribution partner, often called an MMP, such as AppsFlyer, Adjust or Branch. The network should already be an integrated partner in your MMP, so setup takes minutes rather than days.

For websites and lead forms, confirm how conversions are reported back: a postback from your CRM or backend is more reliable than a browser pixel. Either way, you and the network should see the same numbers on the same dashboard logic.

4. Ask exactly how fraud is handled

Every network says it fights fraud. What matters is the detail:

  • What is checked? Click-to-install time, device and IP patterns, event depth, location mismatches.
  • When? Before billing, or only after you complain.
  • Who pays for rejected conversions? Fraudulent conversions should not be billed to you, and the publisher who sent them should not be paid.

Our article on the seven signs of install fraud is a good list to bring to that conversation.

5. Agree KPIs before launch, not after

A payout alone is not a deal. Write down what a "good" user looks like for you, for example a minimum day-1 retention, a share of users who complete KYC, or a lead approval rate. Agree what happens when a source falls below it: paused, replaced, or not paid for. Networks that are confident in their traffic will accept clear KPIs.

6. Read the commercial terms carefully

  • Pricing model and payout. Make sure the action you pay for is the one that matters to your business. Our guide to choosing a pricing model helps here.
  • Caps. Daily and monthly limits protect your budget while you test.
  • Invoicing and tax. Check the billing currency, GST invoices, and the cycle for reconciling numbers before payment.
  • Disputes. Ask how long you have to reject conversions and what evidence is needed.

7. Look at how they communicate

You will work with an account manager every week. Notice how quickly they reply, whether they ask good questions about your product, and whether they send reports without being asked. A responsive team that pauses a bad source in an hour saves more money than a slightly lower payout.

Red flags to watch for

  • Guaranteed huge volumes at a price far below the market, from day one.
  • No clear answer to "where does the traffic come from?"
  • Refusing KPIs, or refusing to share source-level data.
  • Pressure to skip the test phase and commit a large budget.
  • Numbers that never match your MMP, with no explanation.

Run a small test first

The best way to choose is to test two or three networks with the same offer, the same payout and the same KPIs for two to four weeks. Compare them on the metrics that reach your bank account: approved conversions, retention or approval rates, and cost per good user, not just volume.
